A prominent lobbying firm with close connections to President Donald Trump has secured a $2 million contract to bolster the public image and advance the interests of Libyan warlord Khalifa Haftar and his son Saddam, according to disclosures reported by The Washington Post. The firm will also engage with executive branch officials to promote the Haftars' agenda, the newspaper reported. The agreement comes despite longstanding accusations of serious human rights abuses leveled against Haftar’s forces. Human Rights Watch has documented cases involving torture, arbitrary detention, enforced disappearances, unlawful killings, and forced displacement of perceived opponents. Several of his sons hold key positions, with youngest son Saddam widely viewed as the likely successor.
