JEMPOL: The cause of a massive fireworks shop explosion on Thursday night which terrorised Aidilfitri shoppers in Bahau, here is still being investigated, the state Fire and Rescue Department said. The explosion – which lasted several minutes – set fire to the illegal shop and damaged a nearby CIMB branch, as well as several parked vehicles. Multiple video clips of the incident – which have gone viral on social media – show members of the public and motorists scrambling for safety, while others braved the fiery blast for a glimpse of the free pyrotechnic display. State Fire and Rescue Department head Ahmad Hafezze Mat Junoh said the 10.15pm explosion is believed to have been triggered by a group of children lighting up ‘dragon’ firecrackers near the unlicensed outlet.
