Victor Anton (right centre) won $500 after pitching his wētā watcher initiative at the first Taranaki Soup evening. An initiative to use cameras to help estimate wētā numbers has been awarded first place in a “Dragon’s Den” style event for social and environmental entrepreneurs. The inaugural “Taranaki Soup” event was held earlier this week by Startup Taranaki and saw seven locals pitch their solutions to social and environmental issues. JANE MATTHEWS/Stuff Angela Dellow talked to the crowd about a digital hub for rangatahi (youth) called Upto. But it was an initiative to track wētā on Taranaki Maunga that won the cash.
