Waymo, the Alphabet Inc. subsidiary created to commercialize Google's automated driving technology is now inviting the public to participate in its efforts, at least if they live in the Arizona capital. In addition to launch of an automated ride-hailing service, Waymo and Fiat Chrysler are also significantly expanding the size of the Waymo test fleet with an additional 500 Pacifica hybrid minivans. Waymo has done far more on-road testing of its automated driving technology than any other company with more than 2.5 million miles at last count. The greater Phoenix area makes an ideal location to launch Waymo’s autonomous mobility service.
