There's been a noticeable rise in the number of passengers caught at security checkpoints with guns containing live rounds of ammunition. gettyYesterday, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) caught three loaded handguns at security checkpoints. For the Washington, D.C.-area airport, these were the fifteenth, sixteenth and seventeenth guns caught so far in 2021, which surpasses the 14 guns discovered at checkpoints in all of 2019, a year when significantly more Americans were flying. “It looks like there is an epidemic of guns showing up at our airport,” says Scott T. Johnson, TSA Federal Security Director for Reagan National Airport. It is illegal to bring guns, ammunition or gun parts through airport security checkpoints.
