Last week reminded us of the diplomatic complexity surrounding any Brexit-related agreement. Thankfully, one area does not require complicated negotiation between nations — it only requires the Home Office to update its rules. Today, parliament will debate New Clause 53, an amendment to the EU Withdrawal Bill which suggests a way for the government to ensure refugee children are able to reunite with their close family in the UK without the need for perilous, illegal journeys across the seas. It is timely when so many children around the world find themselves fleeing war, violence and persecution and when the UK could do with some straightforward solutions for transnational problems.
