Royal Bank of Scotland has admitted for the first time that it “let customers down” by mistreating them in its restructuring division. The bank struck an apologetic note as it is prepares for the outcome of an investigation by the Financial Conduct Authority into the Global Restructuring Group’s treatment of small businesses. In what is the latest cache of leaked documents over the matter, RBS was shown to have had secret policies that appear to have put the bank at odds with its own customers as it sought to repair its balance sheet in the aftermath of the financial crisis.
