UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala welcomed 12 new defectors to the party. Though Malala did not clarify from which party the new members had defected from, he was happy UDA had "harvested more in Western Kenya." The defectors were led by Sabatia MP Clement Sloya and CAS nominee Jackie Mwenesi among other leaders from Vihiga County. "The Vihiga leaders lauded President Ruto's development plan for Western Kenya noting that it will bring economic development and create opportunities for the people," Malala said. Malala said the party is also open to new ideas that will strengthen it as it delivers on its mandate.
