It’s a new planet or, as the priest on the Titanic said, our former world has passed away. Predictability — Conditions on our old planet were predictable due to scientific understanding of the mechanisms at play. Old Earth had a rich, vibrant, extensive, deep biosphere with an enormous amount of interconnections and redundancies. SF needs 100% blackwater recycling and massive water conservation programs. SF needs to be as self-sufficient and locally sourced as if we were indeed planning to blast off for space.
