Former Mukurweini MP Kabando wa Kabando now says that the country is going back to the days of Kanu rule. In a statement on Wednesday, Kabando claimed that the country is currently witnessing traits that characterised the Kanu rule. He alleged that schools are now being asked to take children to events to cheer President William Ruto. Kabando claimed the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund have been allowed to control the National Treasury and the Central Bank of Kenya. Kabando backed the Azimio coalition in the run-up to the August 2022 general election and also vied for senate using the Narc Kenya party, but lost to a UDA candidate.
