Suicide prevention training for West Coasters worried about the region's high rate of suicide will not be available until the end of the year. LeVa chief executive Monique Faleafa said the organisation needed about six months to design its suicide prevention training course. The number of suicide victims on the West Coast is twice that of the region's road toll. Ministry of Health mental health director John Crawshaw said the ministry's investment in suicide prevention training had increased to $530,000 a year, up $250,000.
