Now we have Domina, a new ancient epic high on political machinations, declamatory expositional dialogue, sex, violence, swearing and pinsharp audio quality. But what stands out here is the way it tells the story of a brutal age from a female perspective. Nadia Parkes plays the young Livia Drusilla, the real-life wife and adviser to the Roman emperor Augustus Caesar, and we see the story through Drusilla’s eyes and through those of the ambitious circles in which she mixes.
