What about the Paralympics?

Day 1 of the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan Cortina saw competition heat up across several team sports while the first five gold medals of the games were handed out. Canada women's hockey secured a 4-0 win over Switzerland to cap off its long-awaited debut in Milan after its first game was postponed due to a norovirus outbreak among Finland. Meanwhile, the U.S. women's hockey team kept rolling with a 5-0 win over that Finland team. Team USA also got off to a strong start in the figure skating team event, but stumbled in mixed doubles curling with a loss to Korea. Franjo von Allmen of Switzerland (downhill Alpine skiing), Frida Karlsson of Sweden (cross-country skiing), Francesca Lollobrigida of Italy (speed skating), Anna Odine Stroem of Norway (ski jumping) and Kira Kimura of Japan (snowboarding) won the first golds of the Games.
