What happens if a homebuyer dies after exchanging?

Q We are selling a flat to an elderly couple, and one of them is unwell. My solicitor says that the sale will still have to go through even if one of the couple dies. What is the legal position if a buyer dies after exchange of contracts? A The position is relatively simple if there is more than one buyer. If one of them dies, the survivor remains bound by the joint contract and can be compelled to complete the agreement on behalf of the deceased.
