What has actually changed for women?


The national gender pay gap is stubbornly stuck around 10 per cent; much more for Māori and Pacific women, Jo Cribb writes. In 2019, there were more chief executives called Mark than female chief executives of NZX-listed companies. Then there is the gender pay gap for those of us who work for these businesses. Those Champions of Change proudly announced that 20 of their members were piloting a methodology and would voluntarily report on their gender pay gaps. So, as we head into the season of commentary of gender issues, of pronouncements by leaders and the release of reports, let’s ask ourselves what has actually changed for women and how many business leaders are actually putting their money where their mouths are.
