The B.1.617.2 Covid-19 variant, dominant in India, has been detected in South Africa, the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) confirmed over the weekend. Two cases were confirmed in Gauteng and two in KwaZulu-Natal. The NICD said all cases had been isolated and managed, according to Covid-19 guidelines, and that contact tracing had been performed in order to limit the spread of this variant.
