The villagers started first by appealing to the authorities, which later evolved into a sit-in agitation after they saw no action taken. On days when they feel hopeless, they look towards that same mining site. On some days, everyone eats together at the protest site, on others they go back home to eat before coming back. A few kilometres away, women, clad in sarees and ghungat covering their faces, stand guard to protect the Girjan river.
