A sweet start for the Vancouver Whitecaps. The Caps (12-12-7), who return home to host Sporting Kansas City in 10 days, snapped a three-game losing streak. Toronto (9-16-6), now mathematically eliminated, got a goal from Jozy Altidore in the 73rd minute while down to 10 men. Toronto is winless (0-15-1) when conceding the first goal, and hasn’t won a game (0-5-1) when scoring once in MLS play this season. But the Whitecaps’ defensive game-plan was sound; staying central, ceding the wide possession to Toronto in the final third, and dominating the box.
