The East India Company, the British trading firm that once ruled large parts of India, has shut down again. It was later revived in 2010 by Indian entrepreneur Sanjiv Mehta. From empire to luxury brandThe original East India Company was founded on December 31, 1600, under a royal charter from Queen Elizabeth I. Sanjiv Mehta was born in October 1961 into a Gujarati Jain family in Mumbai. According to reports, the Mahindra Group acquired a minority stake in the East India Company in 2011.
