Why Are Public Retailers Largely Absent From Government Loan Programs?


In a comprehensive search of over 300 public companies that received the government loans, only a handful of retailers turned up. And they ended up saying they are returning the loan money. Obviously many small businesses, including retailers, received loans. A recent survey from LendingTree found that just 5% of business owners have received a PPP loan, though 60% had applied for funding. Retailers, their stores only now starting to reopen, would seemingly be a prime industry sector for loan relief.
