Much as I hate to be a Debbie Downer on the future of work in the coming years, I’ll be blunt: Millions, if not tens of millions of jobs, are going away due to automation. If you are early or in the middle of your work life, you need to be concerned about this trend. You’ll not only need to be able to integrate with automated systems, you’ll need systemic and holistic ideas and the ability to think and act on your feet. You’ll need to know history, ethics, science, literature and the skills to integrate this knowledge to the task at hand. Fortunately, the skills that need to be taught are already available in community and four-year colleges.
