Why are Covid death rates so low when cases are are soaring?

It’s one of the most common illnesses I see in surgery, week in, week out. We all know cases of Covid-19 are on the rise, here and on the continent. In the first week of July, the number of new Covid-19 infections hit a low of roughly 550-a-day across the UK. If rising cases were leading to death or serious illness, we would have seen it by now. We’re in a different place than we were in March, even with more than 1,000 new cases a day.
