“If Scottish football had a better pathway and plan, fewer boys would move to England,” claims Vata. “In today’s Scottish league there are too many average players who block the path of the young players. “What is the worst case scenario if a young player moves to England?” said the agent, speaking on condition of anonymity. “If the young Scottish players are not getting a chance to play here, they will go elsewhere,” says Docherty now. “The only way we will do that is if we promote young Scottish football players to first-team football.”
