Libya is poised to hold presidential and parliamentary elections this year but there are still many unresolved issues. Ongoing political turmoil has caused the elections to be postponed several times, with no exact date set. In other words, there is no unified national military that has control over the entire territory. Never was there a national military capable of effectively fighting other countries. Moving forward Libya needs to establish a ceasefire and continue to work on the political settlement, before meaningful elections can be held.
