Wicklow owner of schooldays.ie says Irish teachers going ‘above and beyond’ every day

The Wicklow owner of the prominent Irish online resource for parents and educators, schooldays.ie, has said the site’s latest national survey of teachers provides “a valuable snapshot of the teaching landscape in Ireland today” and highlights “both the dedication of teachers and the challenges they face”. According to the findings, 75.8pc of teachers say they go “above and beyond their contracted hours every day”, while a further 21.1pc do so “several times a week”. When asked what motivated them to enter the profession, teachers pointed strongly to vocation-led reasons such as “love of learning and education” (41.1pc) and a “desire to make a difference” (28.1pc). Teachers also reported that the profession strengthens a range of essential skills including patience, communication, emotional resilience and problem-solving. Almost all teachers stated they were proud of their profession with nearly 40pc of teachers stating they feel extremely proud to be a teacher, while a further 33.8pc said they are very proud.
