A 5% income tax on people working from home? gettyYou may have heard that Deutsche Bank Research produced a report in which they suggested that remote workers pay an additional 5% tax on their income to help pay for grants that would help those who can’t work from home and are impacted by fewer office workers. It’s progressive, relatively low, and would raise a tremendous amount of revenue (a 0.1% tax would generate $777 billion over 10 years). Deutsche Bank estimates a remote work tax of 5% would generate only $4.2 billion each year. No politician is going to try to increase taxes on 52 million voting Americans, Deutsche Banks’ estimate on the number of remote workers, for $4.2 billion.
