I realized I needed to write a book and explain what was going on — before the 2024 election — otherwise we risk sliding into a really, really dark place. As a result, Latino voters are responding to that reality in myriad different ways. There’s more Latino voters in Wisconsin than Black voters now. In every one of the swing states, the number of Latino voters is bigger than the 2020 margin of victory. For 30 years, I’ve been asked this question by all types of reporters: “Are Latinos going to be the decisive vote in this election?” I said no.
