The 20-year-old’s career with the north London club has been anything but straightforward, and his hopes of convincing Mikel Arteta that he has a future with the Gunners appear to have suffered another inadvertent setback. Arsenal could yet look to block Saliba’s participation in a tournament that is due to run from July 21 until August 7, with the new Premier League season set to start just six days after the Olympic final. Liverpool, meanwhile, appear likely to win their battle with the Egyptian Football Association who had been determined to ensure Mohamed Salah was included in their squad.
