During Ernie Grunfeld's 16 seasons as team president, the Wizards never won 50 games in a season or advanced past the second round of the playoffs. Ernie Grunfeld did not. But there was business Tuesday that had been a long time coming: Leonsis had fired Grunfeld after 16 years as team president. Grunfeld also built an exciting Wizards team led by Gilbert Arenas, Antawn Jamison and Caron Butler that qualified for the playoffs four consecutive years from 2005 to 2008. Even after firing Grunfeld, Leonsis wants to remain an owner who keeps some degree of separation from the daily basketball decisions.
