A wolf-whistling, talking tūī at Ngā Manu Nature Reserve in Waikanae has died. Keko was a crowd favourite for 15 years, moving to the reserve after he was attacked by a cat as a nestling in 2005. Robyn Schlaepfer, who has been a staff member at Ngā Manu since 2003, said Keko would be missed by many. Supplied Keko learnt to talk and wolf-whistle, making him a crowd favourite at Ngā Manu. Supplied Keko came to Ngā Manu after a cat attacked him.
