A young woman who visited an unlicensed tattoo artist came back out with much more than she bargained for: a life-threatening infection and permanent scar. Nancy's friends recommended that she go to a man's house in Southend instead - even though he had no license. On her arrival, the 20-year-old was told that she had a serious infection and would require urgent treatment. 'I've been left with permanent scars and I don't think any professional will be able to fix it.' All tattoo artists must register with their local council, but the problem of unlicensed inking is growing due to the increasing availability of tattoo equipment.
