Jessie Fleming and Nichelle Prince got second-half goals to give Canada a 2-0 victory against New Zealand in the Women’s World Cup on Saturday in Grenoble, France. The win clinched a spot in the round of 16 for the Canadians. Canada dominated play but could not score until Fleming converted a pass from Prince from about eight yards out in the 48th minutes. Canada is tied for the lead in Group E with the Netherlands, which also clinched a spot in the second round with a 3-1 win against Cameroon. Canada had never advanced out of the group stage in a Women’s World Cup outside North America.
