Workers’ Health, Safety Still At Risk Under MECQ – The Manila Times

One of the main differences between modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) and the less severe general community quarantine (GCQ) is that public transportation is banned under the former classification. In both MECQ and GCQ classifications, private forms of transportation, namely company shuttles, personal vehicles, bicycles, motorcycles and e-scooters can ply the roads. In short, even under an MECQ, millions of Filipino workers presently have to commute to work but without their requisite public transportation. Malacañang has emphasized that Metro Manila and neighboring Laguna, Rizal, Cavite and Bulacan can no longer afford to have an MECQ extension. This is a huge sigh of relief among our labor force who are risking their health and safety at work from lack of transportation or at home from lack of food.
