Microsoft’s Xbox audio division has been seriously busy recently. In January it announced DTS:X support for games, and just a few weeks ago it announced the introduction of Dolby Atmos upmixing. Now, at the GDC in San Francisco, it’s unveiled another step in the Xbox One's audio evolution: spatial sound for TV speakers. Previous to Microsoft’s latest announcement, the Xbox One’s spatial audio support only covered home theater/soundbar and headphone options. You should, of course not expect this TV speaker implementation to rival the immersive experience that spatial sound can deliver over a full multi-channel speaker system or a good set of headphones.
