Yankees fans jeered Manny Machado on Monday afternoon with the same intensity Clint Frazier, Brett Gardner and Gary Sanchez pounded the baseball. Machado was greeted with loud boos and chants of “Overrated!” in his first visit to New York since free agency. He was 1 for 4 with a leadoff double in the ninth inning during the Yankees’ 5-2 win over the San Diego Padres, the eighth win in nine games for the American League East leaders. He dined with Yankees officials in December in hopes of becoming their third baseman. The team did not bite, however, and Machado signed a $300 million, 10-year contract with the Padres in February.
