NRA spokespeople refused to respond to various media outlets, only telling National Public Radio that the group has “not been contacted” by the FBI. The NRA, through a channel that doesn’t require it to disclose donors, spent a record amount in 2016: $55 million, including $30 million backing Trump, triple the amount it spent on Romney. We must embrace their anger instead of falling into yet another cycle of defeatism, telling ourselves ― and thus telling these young people ― that beating the NRA can’t be done. The NRA has become an arm of the GOP, and this should show Democrats that attempting to keep from angering the NRA isn’t going to help them. And, per last month’s McClatchy investigation, the NRA may even be intricately woven into the story of Russia’s attack on American democracy.
