The 3-year-old was critically injured in the suburb of Papakura on Saturday morning. A Counties Manukau District Health Board spokeswoman originally said the child was a girl, but it was later confirmed he was a boy. He remained in a critical but stable condition on Sunday, an Auckland District Health Board spokeswoman said. Most children injured are toddlers, aged 2 years.
