Named locally as Noel Sheridan, he was treated at the scene and taken to Cavan General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was originally from Ballynamuck and had emigrated to Australia about 10 years ago, where he worked in the mines. The youngest of four children, had been visiting his family in Longford for Christmas. Meanwhile, mother-of-one Clarice Rice (26) was killed in a crash at 11.30pm in Drumfad Lower Road in Portsalon, Co Donegal, on Friday night. On average, one person has died in a road traffic incident every 48 hours during this Christmas period.
