Over the past two and a half years I’ve spent a lot of time investigating shortcomings, misunderstandings, and outright failures related to Scottish education. Which is why it was nice for me to get to speak to Naomi, a young woman from Derry now living in Kintore, Aberdeenshire. But after being referred to a programme called Ignyte, everything changed. Organised by St Columb’s Park House, the scheme is funded as a Personal Youth Development Programme as part of the International Fund for Ireland. That’s what happened to Naomi, and now Scotland has gained another bright young asset to help make our country better.
