Yulimar Rojas of Venezuela had high hopes coming into these Games. Rojas, a triple jumper, thought she could make a bid for the world record, which had stood for 26 years. In doing so, she also thought she could become the first woman from Venezuela to win an Olympic gold medal. She won the silver medal in the event at the 2016 Rio Games. Rojas, 26, leapt 15.67 meters, shattering the 1995 record of 15.50 set by Inessa Kravets of Ukraine.
