Petro Poroshenko, Ukraine's President for the last five years, quickly conceded defeat -- although he has made it clear that leaving the presidency will not mean leaving politics. Disaffection with the status quo meant that Mr Zelenskiy was elected with more than 70% of the vote in the second and decisive round of the election. Mr Zelenskiy comes to the presidency with no previous political experience. The crowds that watched then so enthusiastically knew what they didn't want, but post-Soviet Ukraine is yet to decide definitively what it does want. Mr Zelenskiy's election victory is another clear statement the country wants a break with what has gone before.
