“The way through which attempts were made in the past to humiliate Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and deny his contribution and work has proven that Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman is certainly an inevitable character in the Liberation War of Bangladesh,” he said. Highlighting the role of Ziaur Rahman in proclamation of country’s independence, Tarique Rahman, also BNP chairman, said that Ziaur Rahman did not declare independence suddenly. “But, later, we saw many attempts to humiliate Shaheed Ziaur Rahman. There is no way to hide the fact that Shaheed Zia is an inevitable character of the Liberation War,” he added. At the outset of his speech, Tarique Rahman paid rich tributes to all martyrs of the Liberation War of 1971 and expressed gratitude to national leaders, including the declarer of independence, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.
