VARANASI: An FIR has been registered against celebrity hair designer Jawed Habib with Ramnagar police in Varanasi for allegedly "hurting sentiments of Hindus " by publishing an advertisement portraying several deities.According to SO Ramnagar Vivek Srivastava, a local social worker, Kripashankar Yadav, has lodged a complaint against Habib and three others alleging that he insulted Hindu deities by portraying them in objectionable condition in the advertisement. Claiming that Habib had hurt sentiments of Hindus, he demanded action. Taking note of Yadav's complaint, an FIR under section 153A of the IPC was lodged on Thursday night, added Srivastava.Police said that Yadav also attached the copy of advertisement to which he had objections "due to the portrayal of Goddesses Lakshmi and Saraswati, Lord Ganesha and Lord Kartikeya getting their hair fixed, applying makeup, and counting money, with Goddess Durga looking over them in a Habib salon along with a tag, 'Gods too visit JH salon'. "This advertisement was published in West Bengal few days back. In view of the controversy over the issue, Habib tweeted his apology on September 5 mentioning, "If our ad campaign had inadvertently hurt anyone's sentiments, we apologise for that."
