The major challenges facing humanity today require the establishment of a new global order of cooperation founded on principles of justice and equity for all nations of the world, particularly those of the South, the Parliamentary Conference on South-South Cooperation stressed in a final declaration released in Rabat Friday. Participants in the conference called in the final declaration on the international community to promptly bolster confidence in global development cooperation pathways and to enhance international solidarity, with the aim of facilitating a significant developmental shift in countries of the South and narrowing the economic gap with the countries of the North. The participants also stressed the need to reinforce the endeavors of Arab, African and Latin American parliaments, including senates and equivalent councils, in all their pluralistic structures and enriched compositions, in order to enhance their oversight of government actions and compliance with national and international commitments, and to play their part in enacting legislation to promote economic and trade cooperation between Africa, the Arab world, Latin America and the countries of the South. The two-day conference, held under the high patronage of King Mohammed VI, focused on the “Role of National Parliaments and Regional and Continental Parliamentary Unions in Africa, the Arab World, and Latin America in Enhancing Strategic Partnerships and Achieving Joint Integration and Development.”The conference brought together over 260 participants from 40 countries, including 30 Speakers of national parliaments and regional and continental parliamentary unions. The meeting, held at the initiative of the Upper House of the Moroccan Parliament in collaboration with the Association of Senates, Shoora, and Equivalent Councils in Africa and Arab world (ASSECAA), is part of Morocco’s leadership in launching development and solidarity initiatives aimed at strengthening South-South cooperation.

In the oil-rich North African nation, business owners are rumored to be dumping their assets and scrounging up euros on the black market so their wealth isn't stuck. The government estimates roughly $7 billion worth of foreign currency trades hands on the country's black market. Traders are intimately aware that the gap between the official and black market exchange rate can narrow or widen by the day. The growing chasm between the official and black market rates meant fewer euros are getting into the country, he said.

And by 2035, the province aims to become a “globally competitive economic and trade hub for collaboration with Africa”. In a decisive move aimed at overhauling the asylum process, the Swiss government has announced plans to expand a groundbreaking 24-hour fast-track procedure for North African asylum-seekers across all federal asylum centers. Authorities observed a tendency among some North African asylum-seekers to seek short-term accommodation, particularly over weekends, with no intention of following through the asylum process. The success of the Zurich pilot project offers a beacon of hope, but the road ahead demands vigilance, compassion, and adaptability. In summary, the Swiss government's decision to extend the 24-hour fast-track asylum procedure for North African asylum-seekers to all federal asylum centers marks a significant shift in migration management. Initiated by the promising results of a Zurich pilot project, this move aims to streamline the asylum process, ensuring quicker decisions.

African leaders were urged Saturday to step up and tackle the myriad conflicts and political crises blighting the continent of 1.4 billion people. Opening the African Union's two-day summit, AU Commission chief Moussa Faki Mahamat painted a "bleak picture" with a "litany of difficulties" confronting many countries. The Great Lakes region of central Africa was, he said, witnessing a worsening of its "eternal crises" fuelled by the conflict in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
