Canberra, Dec 19 (IANS) Leader of Australia's Northern Territory (NT), Natasha Fyles on Tuesday resigned after failing to disclose shareholdings in a mining company.Fyles announced her intention to stand down as Chief Minister of the NT on Thursday following a series of integrity scandals, reports Xinhua news agency. Tuesday's announcement came just a day after it was revealed that Fyles owned undisclosed shares in South32, a mining and metals company that possesses a manganese mine on Groote Eylandt off the NT's north-east coast. For this reason, I feel the honorable action is to resign as Chief Minister," Fyles told reporters. A former school teacher, Fyles became the Chief Minister of the NT in May 2022. Fyles also stood down from her role as the NT's Minister for Health but said she would not quit politics.

Si6 Metals has added further impetus to its highly-prospective Botswana precious and base metals play, with its latest drill program striking high-grade silver and copper and exciting visual nickel sulphides. The work included 3663m of reverse-circulation (RC) drilling and 2027m of diamond drilling across the company’s two high-grade copper-silver projects at Dibete and Airstrip, in addition to its promising Maibele North nickel-copper-platinum group elements (PGE) play. It will also undertake a review of potential open-pit mining options at Maibele North and nickel-copper-PGE sulphide production, while also developing a field campaign for next year to advance multiple targets within the broader project tenure. Si6’s Botswana project sits within a prolific nickel district and covers more than 2000 square kilometres within the highly-prospective Limpopo Belt in eastern Botswana. The Maibele North deposit is centrally located 50km from Premium Nickel Resources’ world-class Selebi-Phikwe nickel-copper-cobalt-PGE mine and 80km from Norilsk Nickel’s Tati nickel-copper mine.

In November 2023, startups in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region secured a significant funding milestone, raising $764 million across 42 funding rounds. Modus Capital emerged as the most prolific investor, contributing $2.8 million across eight startups incubated through its flagship venture builder program. Saudi Arabian investors secured the second position in terms of activity, engaging in 10 deals. Startups founded by males secured the majority of funds, amounting to $753 million across 29 deals, accounting for 98.5%. Female founders, on the other hand, received less than two percent of the capital, totaling $9 million.

Club World Cup: New format in 2025 with 4 African teamsFIFA has unveiled the new format for the Club World Cup, the first edition of which will be held in the USA in 2025. From now on, a tournament will be held every four years with 32 teams, starting in 2025. And for the first edition, to be held from June 15 to July 13 2025, the first participating teams have been unveiled by the governing body. 12 European teams will be joined by 4 African nations, 4 Asians, 4 North Americans, 6 South Americans and Auckland City (New Zealand), which will have the Oceania ticket. Analyst house Canalys reported smartphone shipments across Africa increased 12 per cent year-on-year in Q3 despite a raft of obstacles in several markets including import restrictions, volatile currencies and general economic issues. Shipments for the quarter were 17.9 million across the continent with Tecno Mobile parent Transsion holding a 48 per cent market share. Pravinkumar noted Africa’s market leader had boosted sales by use of device financing, while also advocating for a higher average selling price. “Africa’s smartphone market narrative unfolds as a compelling story of overcoming challenges with resilience and capitalising on opportunities through strategic partnerships, channel dynamics, and a transforming consumer landscape,” he added. “As the market evolves, vendors must navigate these complexities with agility and foresight to secure a pivotal position in this burgeoning market.”
