Distinctions is the only journal that elevates the voices and talents of Sephardi and Mizrahi scholars and researchers to discuss such important issues. Would articles focusing on ‘Unity for Israel’ appear flat or insensitive in light of this new reality? Mizrahi Heritage MonthNovember is Mizrahi Heritage Month, an opportunity to celebrate our culture and history, and commemorate the one million Jewish refugees who were displaced from Arab countries and Iran in the 20th century. At JIMENA, we developed lesson plans for schools covering antisemitism and Jewish Middle Eastern Americans.

Dutch election candidates make migration a key campaign issue in the crowded Netherlands
It is not only asylum seekers, though. The migration debate in the Netherlands echoes across Europe, where governments and the European Union are seeking ways to rein in migration. Italy recently announced plans to house asylum seekers in Albania. The Dutch Refugee Council argues that refugees make up only a small proportion of people whose applications for social housing are fast-tracked. “The political debate about asylum and migration is very polarized,” said Anna Strolenberg, a spokeswoman for the council.

Photo: APSouth Korea is seeing growing online anti-feminist harassment and a recent series of assaults targeting women, especially those with short hair, but women are fighting back. A few weeks ago, South Korean middle school student Lee witnessed a friend with short hair getting harassed by a group of male teenagers on a bus in Yongin city. The incident prompted an online campaign encouraging women with short hair to share their photos under #women_shortcut_campaign. Many women with short hair have been sharing their photos through Instagram, X, formerly known as Twitter, and other social media platforms.

My Remembrance Day Memory: Meeting a WW2 bomber crewIn my public school days, I didn’t have hockey or baseball trading cards; I had Second World War cards of fighter and bomber planes and all the horrible stuff associated with war. But there was a huge four-engine bomber — an Avro Lancaster X — in the far side of the Second World War section that caught my fancy. I sat in there during the war years!”The elderly gentlemen were the last living bomber crew. The Canada Aviation Museum, upon request, jumped at the chance to get a picture of the last remaining bomber crew still intact and still alive. That’s my Remembrance Day memory and one I’ll always treasure.

China sets sights on Morocco as North African nation becomes centre of EV revolution
“China is expected to become a key participant in Morocco’s electric vehicle industry and contribute to Morocco’s industrialisation process,” Li wrote in an article on November 1 marking the 65th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations. Sino-German electric vehicle battery maker Gotion High-Tech also plans to build a US$6 billion factory in Morocco to produce electric car batteries and energy storage systems. Rabat is now positioning itself as an EV manufacturing hub – and Chinese companies are at the centre of the ambitious plans. In North Africa, Morocco and Egypt had been big beneficiaries of this, he said, as firms established production facilities near the European market. “EV manufacturers, especially Chinese ones, are pivoting to lithium iron phosphate batteries, and phosphates are abundant in Morocco,” Conradie said.

South Africa beat Afghanistan by 5 wickets - Greater Kashmir
Ahmedabad, Nov 10: South Africa secured a five-wicket victory over Afghanistan, sealing their place in the semi-finals. Despite Azmatullah Omarzai’s impressive unbeaten 97 for Afghanistan, the team fell short of a competitive total, finishing at 244 all out after 50 overs. Omarzai’s impactful innings, just 3 runs short of a century, showcased his resilience. South African pacer Gerald Coetzee played a pivotal role, claiming 4 wickets to keep the Afghan batters in check. With 7 wickets down at 160, Noor Ahmad joined Omarzai at the crease, as Afghanistan aimed to set a target of around 250 runs.
