Last year, the 27-year-old designer launched Kibera Fashion Week and the second edition was staged on Saturday in the heart of the sprawling slum. The eldest of four children raised by a single mother in Kibera, Avido had never thought about pursuing a career in fashion. His creations were also featured during Berlin Fashion Week in 2019. I could grow, leave, be part of the Paris Fashion Week. But I'd rather have a fashion week here and inspire people here," he said.

ConocoPhillips has started production from the Tommeliten A field, located in the Greater Ekofisk Area in the North Sea, offshore Norway. Natural gas from the new ConocoPhillips-operated field is being produced and delivered nearly six months earlier than planned, ConocoPhillips said Friday. The Tommeliten A Unit licensees are PGNiG Upstream Norway AS, ConocoPhillips Skandinavia AS, TotalEnergies EP Norge AS, Vår Energi ASA, ConocoPhillips (U.K.) Holdings Limited, TotalEnergies E&P UK Limited, and ENI UK Limited. Two pilot holes have been drilled during the field development, which have allowed for one additional production well. As such, this gas development has low greenhouse gas emissions and high value and job creation, while also providing energy security on our journey to net-zero,” Våge added.

Some Cairenes took to the streets outside the Al Azhar mosque in solidarity with the Palestinians after Friday prayers on 13 October. Now in the latest round of fighting in Gaza, Egyptian officials say Israel is trying to drag their country into the fray again. As the Israeli government tightened its siege, cutting off water and power, its military spokesman advised Palestinians to leave Gaza through its border with Egypt. This echoed calls by far-right Israeli politicians to resettle Palestinians in Gaza across the border in the arid Sinai Peninsula. Should this latest war be confined to a fight in Gaza between Hamas and the Israel Defence Force, then Egypt could still be brought in to mediate a ceasefire.

by Luke AlfredLast month Sisanda Magala, a fast-bowler originally from the Eastern Cape, was chosen for South Africa's World Cup squad. Now it goes into the coffers of Mega Sportz, a private company made up of former EP Cricket board directors. Questions were asked, too, by the Sunrisers Hyderabad, the owners of the Eastern Cape franchise in the SA20. At time of writing, the contractual relationship between EP Cricket, Mega Sportz and the Sunrisers is ambiguous. Such non-compliance should have led to sanction - like not being allowed to vote at the CSA AGM - but it didn't.

Africa’s total exports will reach $952 billion by 2035, Standard Chartered said in a new report that forecast that the continent’s new free trade area has the potential to increase this figure even further. The bank's nearly $1 trillion projection for the region's exports growth would be achieved by an annual expansion rate of 3% from now until 2035, it said in its Future of Trade: Africa report released on Wednesday. "The disruptions to Africa’s supply chains over the last few years have amplified the urgency to implement the AfCFTA," Sunil Kaushal, Regional CEO, Standard Chartered Africa Middle East, said. African countries began officially trading under the new free trade area at the start of 2021, though the bloc's full implementation will likely take years. Some of the reports highlights include that Africa’s trade corridors with some of the world’s most dynamic regions will grow faster than the global average of 4.3%.

UN Chief Antonio Guterres dedicated a significant part of his report to the Security Council on the Sahara to the visit paid by his Personal Envoy Staffan de Mistura to Laâyoune and Dakhla, in the Moroccan Saharan provinces on September 5-7. The visit of the Personal Envoy, says the report of the UN Secretary General, was also an opportunity to inquire about the continued development witnessed by the southern provinces since their return to the homeland. The Personal Envoy, who was traveling without any particular security measures, witnessed first-hand the tranquility that prevails in these provinces, and the important infrastructures that have been built to promote the economic, social, cultural, and environmental development of the Moroccan Sahara. The document also mentions the visit of the Personal Envoy to hospitals, vocational training centers and sports establishments. These meetings also reflect the climate of democracy and respect for human rights which prevails in the southern provinces, far from the fallacious allegations of Algeria.
