The Tutsi-led M23 have been waging a fresh insurgency in the vast central African country’s militia-plagued east since 2022. Military efforts to push them back have intensified over the past year with the use of drones and aircraft. Congo authorities, the United Nations, the United States and other Western governments have accused Rwanda of backing the group. Rwanda vehemently denies the accusations that have heavily soured relations with its neighbour.

The strike, which the United States and Israel have attributed to the Iran-backed Lebanese militia Hezbollah, was the deadliest attack on Israel or an Israeli-controlled territory since the Hamas-led attack of Oct. 7, 2023. Early on Sunday, Israel said it had struck Hezbollah targets “deep inside Lebanese territory” and in the south of the country. The airstrikes are thought to be part of Israel’s ongoing operations against the militant group and not its response to Saturday’s attack. Israel and Hezbollah have traded fire since Oct. 8, 2023, when the militant group, which dominates southern Lebanon, launched a volley of attacks on northern Israel in solidarity with Hamas. Hezbollah presents a potentially greater threat to Israel than Hamas in the event of a full-scale war.

“I am deeply saddened by these horrific attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure such as hospitals, apartments and markets. Civilian infrastructures should never be a target and are protected under the international humanitarian law,” said Clementine Nkweta-Salami, the Humanitarian Coordinator for Sudan. Resumption of livelihoods and other economic activities, unimpeded humanitarian access, and upscaling of humanitarian funding are critical for Sudan to avert the looming threat of famine. More than 18,800 people have been killed and over 33,000 injured since the conflict broke out in April 2023, according to humanitarian partners. Despite limited funding and a challenging operating environment, humanitarian partners are on the ground and have reached over 7.1 million people with some form of humanitarian assistance between January and May.

King Mohammed VI underscored the need to address the water challenge by speeding up desalination projects that are powered by renewable energies. “This will also make it possible to irrigate vast farming areas, thereby helping to enhance the country’s food security,” he said. The monarch also called for “the development of a national water desalination industry as well as courses for the training of specialized engineers and technicians. “Considering the efforts that are being made to provide water for us all, we ought to be honest with ourselves regarding the sound, rational use of water resources. Indeed, spending billions and billions in order to mobilize water resources, only to see that cases of waste and misuse continue to exist, is unacceptable.” The King said.

King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, urged a break away with crisis management in favor of a lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that would help achieve an independent Palestinian state, including Gaza territory, with eastern Jerusalem as its capital. “In keeping with the same spirit of commitment and responsibility, I continue to back constructive initiatives aimed at finding practical solutions, achieving a tangible and permanent ceasefire, and addressing the humanitarian situation,” the King said in a speech on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of his accession to the throne. “The deteriorating conditions in the region require going beyond the logic of crisis management and seeking, instead, a final solution to this conflict,” he said. Such a solution should be first based on putting an end to the war in Gaza as an urgent priority, then this must be achieved concurrently with opening up political prospects conducive to a just and lasting peace in the region. “The keen interest we take in the situation prevailing in the country does not mean we are oblivious of, or insensitive to, the tragedy befalling our Palestinian brothers and sisters,” he insisted.

This is expected to be reinforced by upgrading 7,000 kilometers of national roads, 2,000 kilometers of highways, and 4,500 kilometers of rural roads by 2035. In the same context, the document drafted by John Thomas Lessor, General Director of the “Thomas More Institute,” highlighted significant developments in the railway sector over the past two decades. Railways have become denser and more modern, including electric and high-speed lines; notably, the Al-Boraq line carried 5 million passengers in 2023 out of a total of 52 million benefiting from the railway network. The country plans to extend this network to 43 Moroccan cities by 2040, compared to 23 currently, reaching about 87% of the Moroccan population. Highlighting Morocco’s infrastructure achievements over the past 25 years, coinciding with King Mohammed VI’s accession to the throne, Conflicts mentioned the kingdom’s development of numerous energy projects, including solar and wind energy, citing the Noor solar projects in Ouarzazate, Boujdour, and Tafilalt, as well as wind energy and green hydrogen projects with recent agreements with Germany.

SEOUL, South Korea — North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has regained weight and appears to have obesity-related health problems such as high blood pressure and diabetes, and his officials are looking for new medicines abroad to treat them, South Korea’s spy agency told lawmakers on Monday. Both his father and grandfather, who ruled North Korea before his 2011 inheritance of power, died of heart issues. A signature of MENA beauty, both in life and art, is the brow. Says content creator Cyrus Veyssi, “When I was younger I felt like I needed to conform to Western beauty norms. One day I was actually in the middle of trimming my brows when my mom walked in and gently reminded me that my brows are a time stamp of my grandpa’s brows, thick and free, a visual motif of our culture. “There’s one that I cannot do my makeup routine without: using Eco gel on my eyebrows as a substitute brow gel. Eco gel keeps my brows fluffy, yet it keeps them in place.

Turkish energy minister said his country is planning to conduct offshore explorations in Libyan waters in search of oil and gas. Ankara and Tripoli are close to reaching an agreement to launch the explorations, energy minister Alparslan Bayraktar told Sabah newspaper. Bayraktar said that, while Turkey invests in explorations in the Mediterranean, it also attaches a higher importance to the black sea. In November 2019, Turkey and the UN-recognized Government of National Accord (GNA) in Libya signed agreements for military cooperation and the demarcation of maritime boundaries. This agreement has been a point of contention, as it delineates maritime boundaries between Turkey and Libya in the Mediterranean, which Greece and Cyprus view as an infringement on their own maritime zones.
