In June, Putin made his first state visit to North Korea in 24 years, and Russia and North Korea signed a mutual defence pact. The University of North Florida has a new assistant golf coach who is a decorated golfer and serviceman. Tyler Gulliksen was named to the UNF staff this week, completing a reorganization of the men’s and women’s programs under director of golf Scott Schroeder. Schroeder, who was the men’s coach for 18 years, oversees both teams, with former UNF player Courtney Cobb serving as the associate head coach for the women’s team. Gulliksen won the 2024 Florida State Golf Association Four-ball with Ty Capps, was the runner-up to Jimmy Ellis of Atlantic Beach in the Florida Amateur, and reached the semifinals of the FSGA Mid-Amateur. He and Capps have also won the last two FSGA Two-Man and Foursomes Championships for a total of five FSGA titles.

North Korea has reportedly deployed its troops in Russia to fight against Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict. North Korean soldiers are being sent to Russia to participate in the war against Ukraine. A video purportedly showing North Korean soldiers arriving at a Russian military base for training also surfaced on social media. Russia and North Korea have become close allies, with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un calling Putin his “closest comrade” on the latter's birthday last week. "These (North Korean) troops movements, if true, are alarming and are an extreme escalation of the conflict in Ukraine.

16.2 million renewable energy jobs globally, Africa lags behind
Currently, there are at least 16.2 million renewable energy jobs worldwide, an increase from 13.7 million in 2022. However, Africa only receives a small share of global renewable energy investments, resulting in low employment numbers. This is according to the latest Renewable Energy and Jobs: Annual Review 2024, which examines the socio-economic impacts of transitioning to renewable energy. The report indicates that the African continent continues to receive only a small share of global renewable energy investments.
