CAIRO – 3 March 2022: The Ukrainian embassy in Cairo expressed its deep gratitude to Egypt for the latter voting for a UNGA resolution demanding that Russia immediately end its military operations in Ukraine. “As always, Egypt supports the truth. Therefore, it was not surprising that Egypt - with all its status, civilization and wise leadership - denounced the unjustified brutal Russian aggression against Ukraine,” the embassy said in a statement on Thursday. Out of 193 UN Member States, a total of 141 countries voted in favor of the resolution, “which reaffirms Ukrainian sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.” Meanwhile, five countries (Belarus, North Korea, Eritrea, Russia and Syria) voted against it, while 35 abstained. When Russia started its “full-scale” military operation in Ukraine on Feb. 24, Egypt stated that it was following with deep concern the successive developments regarding the situation in Ukraine.
