TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) — China flew more than 30 military planes toward Taiwan on Saturday, the second large display of force in as many days. Taiwan’s Defense Ministry said 39 aircraft entered Taiwan’s air defense identification zone in two sorties, one during the day and one at night. China has been sending military planes into the area south of Taiwan on a frequent basis for more than a year. The 38 and 39 planes on Friday and Saturday were the most in a single day since Taiwan began releasing reports on the flights, Taiwan’s Central News Agency said. The Defense Ministry said 20 planes took part in the daytime flights on Saturday and another 19 at night.

But the England coach wants the 26-year-old playmaker to add goals at the international level after having gone 15 matches without scoring since his debut in September 2020. SAO PAULO, Oct 3 (Reuters) - Keno scored late in the second half for Atletico Mineiro to give the Belo Horizonte side a 1-0 win over Internacional and help them extend their lead at the top of Brazil's Serie A to 11 points. Just four days after they were knocked out the Copa Libertadores at the semi-final stage, Atletico bounced back with substitute Keno's 78th minute goal the difference between the sides. Internacional had the better of the early exchanges, forcing keeper Everson into three excellent saves, and they will consider themselves unlucky to lose their first match in nine. The win takes Atletico on to 49 points, 11 ahead of second-placed Palmeiras, who are at home to Juventude on Sunday. Inter are in seventh, with 32 points.

DUBAI, Oct 2 (Reuters) – Iran’s foreign minister said on Saturday that US officials tried to discuss restarting nuclear talks last month, but he insisted Washington must first release $10 billion of Tehran’s frozen funds as a sign of good will. Iran has rejected direct talks with the United States, and indirect talks on reviving a 2015 nuclear accord aimed at keeping Iran from being able to develop a nuclear weapon stopped in June. The United States used intermediaries at the United Nations last month to attempt to make contact, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian told state television. Amirabdollahian reiterated that Iran would “soon” return to the stalled nuclear talks in Vienna, declining to give a date. Iranian and Western officials have said many issues remain to be resolved before the accord can be revived.

Oct 3 (Reuters) - Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp likened refusal to take the COVID-19 vaccine to drink-driving, saying such people endanger others. Klopp said he took the vaccine to protect not just himself but "all the people around me". The 54-year-old also said that 99% of his Liverpool players are vaccinated and that he did not have to convince anyone to do so. "If I say I am vaccinated, other people say: 'How can you tell me I should be vaccinated?' It is a little bit like drink-driving," Klopp said ahead of Sunday's home game with Manchester City.

CAIRO – 2 October 2021: Jordanian Prime Minister Bisher Al Khasawneh praised the volume of infrastructure projects under construction in Egypt, especially the New Administrative Capital, as he met with Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly. Al Khasawneh said his country seeks to benefit from the Egyptian experiment in this regard, especially amid the challenges facing its big cities of Zarqa and Amman, including population growth. The meeting focused on the project to establish Egypt’s new capital project east of Cairo, including completion rates and the future prospects of this giant project. Both prime ministers also made an inspection tour of a number of projects in the new capital. The Jordanian prime minister arrived in Cairo on Thursday, for an official visit, during which he will hold a number of discussions with Madbouly.

CAIRO – 2 October 2021: US Climate Envoy John Kerry revealed that Egypt has been already chosen as the nominee to host the next session of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP 27) in 2022. This comes as a country is chosen each year to represent a different region of the world and host the COP meeting as the president of the conference. At a virtual meeting of the Heads of State and Government on Climate Change on slides of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 76) earlier this month, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi called for the necessity to seriously deal with any unilateral measures that contribute to exacerbating the consequences of climate change. “This sets within the framework of adaptation to climate change, which is a top priority for developing countries, especially in the African continent,” he said. “Climate change has become a terrifying reality that calls for an immediate action to confront it,” he said.

CAIRO – 2 October 2021: An Egyptian military aircraft loaded with tons of medical and pharmaceutical aid departed to Somalia, to contribute to alleviating the burdens of the Somali brothers. The aid was provided by the Ministry of Health and population, and comes in implementation of the directives of President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi to continue Egyptian support with friendly and brotherly countries in different crises. For their part, the Somali side expressed deep thanks and appreciation for the efforts made by the Arab Republic of Egypt and the support it provides to the Somali people, stressing that such assistance reflects the spirit of brotherhood and joint cooperation between the two brotherly peoples. This aid comes as an affirmation of the strength of the historical ties that unite Egypt and Somalia, and based on Egypt's leading role towards the countries of the African continent in various circumstances and providing them with full support and solidarity.

The ex-president of Zamalek Sporting Club, and former parliamentarian, Mortada Mansour announced that he will run in the club’s upcoming elections. Mansour will hold a press conference on Tuesday to announce the details of his position in the elections. In May, The State Council’s Administrative Court ruled to cancel the decision of the Egyptian Olympic Committee to suspend Mansour from sports-related activities for a period of four years. The Egyptian Olympic Committee in October suspended Mansour from his post as Zamalek’s president and banned him from entering stadiums. Mansour is still eligible to run for the Zamalek presidency elections scheduled for November.

Egyptian Transport Minister Kamel al-Wazir announced Friday that the first Spanish Talgo trains will arrive in Egypt by mid-December. Wazir’s remarks came during his visit to Spain to tour the factories of the Talgo company, to inspect six new air-conditioned trains being manufactured for Egypt according to a contract between the two sides worth 157 million euros, including maintenance and spare parts. He stated that he agreed with Talgo officials to compress the supply schedule for the rest of the trains to arrive successively. The Transport Minister said that this deal comes within the ministry’s comprehensive plan to develop its fleet of coaches and trains at the railway facility. Each of the contracted trains consists of a locomotive, a power car, an air-conditioned buffet car, five air-conditioned first-class coaches and eight air-conditioned second-class coaches.

CAIRO - 2 October 2021: The Ambassador of Egypt to Belgium, European Council and the European Commission Khaled El Bakly received two artifacts that were smuggled out of Egypt illegally. Shaaban Abdel Gawad, General Supervisor of the department of recovered antiquites explained that the first retrieved statue is dating back to the era of the Old Kingdom and it is made of a colorful limestone depicting a standing man resting on a base. The other retrieved artifact is Ushabti statue made of faience and dating back to the late period.

Public schools are set to begin session on October 9, while international school students have started on September 12. The ministry also announced enforcing a preventive plan to confront the coronavirus. The plan also includes that the school sets up awareness-raising posters at the entrance, corridors, and in the locations of school activities. It also stated that preventive measures shall be broadcast on school radio, with the inclusion of educational materials interspersed with school activities in multiple patterns. The instructions stressed that the school administration and the competent committee must allocate a temporary isolation room when a case is suspected among students, teachers or support staff.
